Abstract

This study aims to describe the types of student mistakes in solving multiplication and class III arithmetic operations and their causative factors. This research is a qualitative descriptive study using a purposive sampling technique to determine informants. Data collection techniques are interviews, observations, documentation and literature studies. The data analysis technique uses Miles and Huberman which consists of four components, namely data collection, data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. The location in this research was conducted at the Jiken State Elementary School, Sidoarjo. The results of this study found that students still misunderstood the concept of mathematical arithmetic operations and the wrong processes of working on mathematical problems. The types of errors that were mostly made by students in solving division problems were strategic errors and calculation errors. While the factors that cause students to make mistakes in solving division problems are psychological factors, namely students' interest in mathematics and the relationship between educators and students who are less interactive.
