PENTINGNYA MENANAMKAN PENDIDIKAN KARAKTER DALAM MENINGKATKAN DISIPLIN SISWA AGAMA BUDDHA DI SDN GIYONO KECAMATAN JUMO KABUPATEN TEMANGGUNG

Abstract

Character education in the school environment should be implemented from the early stages of basic education. One of the character educations that need to be developed in elementary schools is the discipline character. Discipline character serves to support the implementation of educational activities. Observations at SDN Giyono show a decline in students' character, as seen in habits such as arriving late, wearing incomplete uniforms, and littering. The purpose of this research is to identify how character education is instilled at SDN Giyono and the results of character education in enhancing student discipline. The research method used in this study is qualitative research. Data collection techniques used for this research include observation, interviews, and documentation.The results of this study show that character education at SDN Giyono has been carried out through teaching cultural values such as queuing, loving the environment, being friendly, courteous, disciplined, honest, caring for living creatures, filial piety, respecting others and all living beings, as well as in accordance with Buddhist values, especially the Buddhist Pancasila, which includes not harming other beings, not stealing, not engaging in immoral acts, not lying, not using harsh language, and being taught about the dangers of alcohol and the importance of not smoking.The characters instilled in Buddhist students include morality, religiosity, tolerance, honesty, responsibility, and discipline. Meanwhile, the results of instilling character in Buddhist students have improved their discipline, as demonstrated by behaviors such as studying independently without being prompted by parents, completing assignments well, actively participating in lessons, engaging in discussions, dressing neatly at school, and completing tasks from teachers on time. Buddhist students have disciplined themselves in practicing the Buddhist Pancasila in their daily lives.
