Abstract

This Classroom Action Research departs from the results of observations and interviews with class teachers conducted in class V SDN 1 Candi. In observations and interviews, results were obtained when learning motivation and students' critical thinking skills were still low. This research is an effort to increase students' learning motivation and critical thinking skills in thematic learning by applying the Problem Based Learning learning model. This research was conducted at SDN 1 Candi, Mlarak District, Ponorogo Regency. The subjects of this study were 15 students of class V SDN 1 Candi, with 6 male students and 9 female students. This research is considered successful if the percentage of motivation to learn reaches 75% and critical thinking skills reach 80%. In the first cycle, students' learning motivation got a percentage of 69.89% and students' critical thinking skills got a percentage of 69.67%. Because cycle I was deemed not to have met the success criteria for action, cycle II was carried out by carrying out several corrective actions. In cycle II, the percentage of students' learning motivation increased to 80.94 and the percentage of students' critical thinking skills also increased to 85.33%. From the results of cycle II it proves that learning improvement has met the success criteria for action. Seeing the data obtained in each cycle which has increased, it can be said that the application of the Problem Based Learning learning model can increase learning motivation and critical thinking skills of class V SDN 1 Candi in thematic learning
