Abstract

Reading difficulties are a disorder that results in a lack of motivation to complete assignments and difficulties in understanding learning principles and difficulties in understanding learning concepts. Learning difficulties are an obstacle experienced by students. The aim of this research is to analyze the initial reading difficulties of class I students at SDN 21 Pekanbaru.. This type of research uses qualitative descriptive research with a case study method, data collection techniques, namely tests, observations, interviews, documents The data analysis used was according to Miles and Huberman. The results of the research show that the types of initial reading difficulties experienced by students are that students have difficulty recognizing letters, students have difficulty spelling letters, students have difficulty pronouncing letters, students have difficulty changing letters and students cannot remember letters. Suggestions in the research are expected from teachers, in order to overcome students' learning difficulties by creating a pleasant classroom atmosphere and learning should use learning media tools to make it easier for students to understand the material and attract students' attention in learning. Apart from that, teachers can give rewards to students to make them more enthusiastic in participating in further learning.
