Abstract

The purpose of this study was to describe three things, parenting style, discipline character, and the relationship between parenting style and the discipline character of 4th grade students at Muhammadiyah Elementary School in Balongpanggang District. This type of research is correlational research through a quantitative approach. The number of samples in this study amounted to 20 people. Furthermore, the instrument in collecting research data used a questionnaire. The data analysis technique for this study uses the product moment correlation formula. There are three conclusions of this study, namely (1) the parenting style of students' parents has a good average score, (2) the discipline of grade 4 students at Muhammadiyah 2 Balongpanggang Elementary School is categorized as quite good, and (3) there is no relationship between parenting style towards the discipline of grade 4 students at Muhammadiyah 2 Balongpanggang Elementary School. Suggestion, the parenting pattern applied by parents should be adjusted to the characteristics and age of the child's development. Thus the parenting pattern will be maximized to be able to produce good child development, especially the development of discipline. For further research, it is hoped that it will first conduct comparative research, meaning examining various factors that influence student discipline. So first know which factors play a greater role in student discipline. As well as for discipline variables, if possible, be more specific, for example, discipline in learning or discipline in attitude.
