Abstract

This research provides a clear overview of the difficulties in reading comprehension faced by fifth-grade students at SDN 206/IV Kota Jambi. From the research findings, it is evident that students have difficulties in answering questions, explaining word meanings, and retelling the reading material. However, their ability to retell the reading material falls into moderate category. Teachers have made various efforts to address these difficulties, such as providing various exercises and assignments, organizing group discussions, searching for materials from the internet, and providing attractive visuals that correspond to the reading material. The qualitative approach used in this research provides an in-depth understanding of the students' learning situation and the teachers' efforts to address it. In this context, the research findings can serve as a basis for the development of more effective teaching strategies to enhance the reading comprehension skills of fifth-grade students. Additional steps such as using more interactive teaching methods that actively involve students, as well as utilizing a wider range of diverse and engaging learning resources, may also help improve students' achievement in reading comprehension.
