Abstract

This study aims to describe the role of smart reading corners or called POCAPI in fostering elementary school students' interest in reading. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach. The informants of this study were teachers of grades 2, 3, 4, and 5 of elementary schools in the Kulonprogo area. The data collection instruments used observation sheets, interviews and documentation. The results of this study show that Pojok Baca Pintar (POCAPI) has a very important role in fostering students' reading interest in elementary schools, this is evident from the role of Pojok Baca Pintar (POCAPI) which can foster students' reading interest in elementary schools. The results of this study can be concluded that the Pojok Baca Pintar (POCAPI) is very helpful in growing students' interest in reading. Pojok Baca Pintar (POCAPI) function as facilitators for reading places, as nearby reading materials, comfortable reading places and places for reading that attract attention, so that from these several roles it helps foster interest in reading and positive interaction among students in elementary schools.
