## Abstract

This research aims to describe the difficulties of Class III students at SD Negeri Golok in solving math word problems. This research has been adapted to the learning of math subjects with the theme of loving plants and animals with basic competencies, namely solving problems that involve using the properties of arithmetic operations on whole numbers. The type of research that the author used is descriptive qualitative. The data collection technique applied is test technique, namely collecting student test results which were then analyzed according to predetermined indicators. Afterward, the author also made observations to find out which difficulties students experienced when solving math word problems and the last technique was documentation technique. Based on the data analysis that was carried out on the results, 65% of students were able to solve math word problems in whole numbers, while there were 35% of students who were unable to solve them. The cause of students' difficulties in solving math word problems was mostly due to the inability of students to interpret the questions in a precise way, inaccuracy in using the nature of arithmetic operations, incapacity of changing the question into a math sentence, not appropriate in using the data to be used and faultiness in drawing conclusions.
