Abstract

The implementation of learning Indonesian subjects which always use lecture and conventional methods without any media intermediaries to support understanding of the material can result in monotonous learning in class. The success of students in participating in the learning process is largely determined by the mastery of students' reading skills. If there are students who cannot read, they will experience difficulties when participating in learning activities in all subjects, because students' reading skills are not optimal. This classroom action research was conducted to improve students' consonant reading skills with the help of flashcard media in first grade students at SDN Kedungwaru Lor. This research was carried out with 24 students and one class teacher as research subjects which lasted for 2 cycles, each cycle consisting of 2 meetings. Data collection in this study included interviews, observations, and tests. The test used is an oral test to determine the skill of reading consonants. This study experienced a significant increase, namely the results of research through the use of flashcard media showed an increase in students' consonant reading skills. This can be seen before and after the implementation of the action. In cycle I, it showed that there were 15 students (62.5%) who had achieved learning mastery, and in cycle II it increased to (79%) with 19 students who completed. In addition, the results of observing student learning activities show that students are more active and participate in the learning process by using flashcard learning media because there is a word-composing game, so that in this learning students can learn while playing and solve problems through group discussion activities to improve reading skills consonant letters.
