Abstract

Understanding the concept of the water cycle is one of the important materials in learning science at the elementary school level. However, conventional approaches are often less effective in visualizing this complex process, thus hindering student understanding. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of using digital interactive learning media “Water Adventure” in improving understanding of the concept of the water cycle in grade V students. The study used a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest design, involving 30 students. Data were collected through concept understanding test, student activity observation, and student response questionnaire. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistical test and T-test. The results showed a significant increase in the average student score from pretest (56.83) to posttest (85.67), with the completion rate reaching 93%. This increase was confirmed through an average N-gain score test of 69.24%, which is classified as moderately effective. Effect size analysis using Cohen's d resulted in a value of 4.488, indicating a very large impact. The use of “Water Adventure” media that integrates animation, simulation, and interactive quizzes is able to facilitate students' understanding of abstract concepts, increase learning motivation, and active involvement of students in learning. This study concludes that the interactive learning media “Water Adventure” is an effective innovative solution to improve students' understanding of the water cycle concept. These results make an important contribution to the development of other digital learning media and support more interesting and meaningful science learning.
