Abstract

The aim of this research is to analyze the ability to recognize letters using letter cards and puzzles in class I students at SD Muhammadiyah Parakan. This research method uses qualitative methods. The subjects of this research were class I students of Ali bin Abi Talib at SD Muhammadiyah Parakan, Temanggung Regency, totaling 18 students. Of the 18 students, there are 15 students who are not yet able to recognize letters. Data collection techniques use observation. The data analysis technique used is qualitative descriptive data analysis. The learning process for students who don't know any letters at all, the teacher applies letter card games and puzzles, and provides extra hours for the students. Within a period of 3 months, the ability and skills to understand letters had improved so that students were able to read. Research results showed that letter card games and puzzles could improve students' letter recognition and reading skills.
