Abstract

Science learning has theoretical and practical learning activities. Laboratory infrastructure is the part that often becomes the main obstacle. In general, this research aims to provide alternative solutions to the limited learning resources in schools, especially practicum. In particular, this research was conducted to analyze the application of virtual laboratories in elementary science learning. The objects of observation were class V students at Munggangsari Public Elementary School, Purworejo Regency. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. The results of the analysis from 26 fifth grade students at Munggangsari Public Elementary School, are that the application of virtual labs can reduce errors and work accidents during practicums. Apart from that, the application of virtual labs can also be a solution for schools that have problems with laboratory facilities, but virtual labs cannot be implemented completely to replace reality lab, this is because the level of experience and practical skills with virtual labs is not as good as with reality labs. Practicums do not directly interact with tools and materials, so virtual labs are more effective if applied as preliminary practicums to support practicum understanding in carrying out practicums.
