Abstract

This research aims to determine the factors that cause students to experience difficulties in the process of understanding reading, teacher strategies in overcoming reading difficulties and factors inhibiting and supporting students' difficulties in reading in class V students at SDN Sugihwaras. This research uses a qualitative method with a case study type of research. Data collection uses observation, interviews and documentation. The sample in this study was 3 students of class V SDN and the homeroom teacher of class V SDN Sugihwaras. The data analysis technique used is the Miles & Huberman interactive analysis type, namely data reduction, data display and conclusion drawing. The results of the research show that the factors causing students to experience problems in reading difficulties are internal and external factors. Internal factors are students' intelligence level, students' lack of interest and motivation to read. External factors are the condition of the family environment and the economic situation of the parents. The strategy that is the teacher's solution in helping overcome students who have difficulty reading is building good cooperative relationships with the students' parents, providing study guidance and always providing motivation to read enthusiastically. Factors that hinder teachers in overcoming students who have difficulty reading are the school environment and the community environment. and lack of awareness among students who experience reading difficulties. And supporting factors for teachers in overcoming students who have difficulty reading are developing interactive learning media, family environmental factors and arousing students' interest in reading.
