MENINGKATKAN PEMAHAMAN MATEMATIS PADA SOAL CERITA MATEMATIKA MELALUI METODE POLYA SISWA KELAS 4 SDN 02 MANISREJO KOTA MADIUN

Abstract

This classroom action research is based on the results of observations and interviews with class teachers, namely students having difficulty understanding mathematical concepts, especially in math story problems about flat shapes and compound shapes. In learning mathematics the teacher only provides ready-to-use formulas without explaining mathematical concepts so that students cannot achieve learning objectives and learning outcomes are not in line with expectations. This research is a solution to improve students' mathematical understanding skills in math word problems on flat shapes and composite shapes using the Polya Method. This research was conducted at SDN 02 Manisrejo, Taman Kota Madiun District, Academic Year 2022/2023. The subjects of this study were 26 grade IV students. In the pre-cycle, only 26.9% completeness was obtained, where as many as 19 students had not reached the completeness score above the KKM, then experienced an increase of 53.8% in the first cycle, namely 12 students still had not reached the KKM and increased to 84.6% in the first cycle. II, namely 22 students out of 26 students achieved completeness according to expectations and only 4 students whose scores were still below the KKM. Looking at the data for each cycle and the improvement from the results of observations and student tests, it can be said that improving learning using the Polya Method can improve students' mathematical understanding of mathematics subject story questions on flat shapes and combined shapes in class IV students at SDN 02 Manisrejo in the 2022/2023 academic year.
