Abstrak

This research aims to: (1) analyze how the study of capability of understanding in mathematical concept; (2) analyze how the concept of knisley learning model; (3) analyze how the implementation of knisley learning model in improving students’capability of understanding in mathematical concept. The method which is used in this research is qualitative and the kind of research is study of literature. The instrument that used in this research is the researcher its self. Collecting data that used in this research is by editing, organizing and finding. The result of the research shows that: (1) The capability of understanding in mathematical concept is an ability in order all students can understand mathematical concept and not only a recitation. Students who have capability of understanding  in mathematical concept, they are able to restate what they have got by spoken or written and they also can connect one concept with another concepts , then they can solve mathematic problem although the questions aren’t routine. (2) Knisley learning model gives a chance to students to find out a new concept based on students’ knowledge. Students build their own knowledge, so it enables to understand math concept because the students are engaged directly through their own experience during the learning process. (3) Implementation of knisley learning model can affect students’ capability of understanding in mathematical concept through four steps, they are concrete-reflective, concrete-active, abstract-reflective and abstract-active. The four steps affect students’ capability of understanding in math concept, it is students are able to restate a concept, giving an example from a material which is being learned and identify a known matter and needed from a matter so students can develop enough requirement or necessary requirement from a concept and apply a concept in solving mathematic problem.
