Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the Discovery Learning learning model assisted by concrete objects media on the understanding of science concepts of grade V students at SDN Glagaharum. This type of research is an experiment (Pre-Experimental Design) using the One-Group Pretest-Posttest Design design. The sample was determined by saturated sampling technique, namely class V A students totaling 25 students. The results of this study indicate that the Discovery learning model assisted by concrete objects media has a positive or significant effect on students' understanding of science concepts. This is evidenced by the results of the pretest and posttest data hypothesis test using the paired sample t-test which shows that the result is sig. 0.000, which means smaller or less than α 0.05 (0.000 <0.05). Thus the results of the t test that have been obtained provide the results of the hypothesis H0 rejected and Ha accepted. The results of the pretest and posttest N-gain test show the average result obtained is 0.57 which shows the magnitude of the effect is 57% (medium category). So, there is a significant difference in the use of the Discovery Learning model assisted by concrete objects media on the understanding of science concepts of grade V students at SDN Glagaharum.
