Abstract

This research is motivated by the low learning outcomes of students in Mathematics learning, the lack of learning activities involving students because the learning process is still centered on the teacher, so that students are still less active in the learning process. The purpose of this study is to describe how to improve student learning outcomes using the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model in Mathematics learning in class IV SDN 01 Ladang Cakiah, Bukitinggi City. This type of research is classroom action research (PTK) with a qualitative approach and a quantitative approach. This research was conducted in two cycles, namely cycle I consisting of 2 meetings and cycle II consisting of 1 meeting. Each cycle includes four stages, namely planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The subjects of this study were teachers and students of class IV SDN 01 Ladang Cakiah with a total of 28 students, 14 male students and 14 female students. The data in this study consisted of qualitative data and quantitative data with the data source being the Mathematics learning process using the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model. Data collection techniques used in this study were observation, tests, and non-tests. The instruments used were observation sheets, test sheets, and non-tests. The results of the study showed that: First, the cycle I teaching module obtained an average of 91.66% (A), increasing in cycle II to 95.83% (SB). Second, the results of the implementation of learning aspects of teachers in cycle I obtained an average of 83.92% (B), increasing in cycle II to 96.42% (SB). Third, the results of the implementation of learning aspects of students in cycle I obtained an average of 83.92% (B), increasing in cycle II to 96.42% (SB). Fourth, the learning outcomes of students in cycle I obtained an average of 76.6 (C), increasing in cycle II to 93.92 (B). Thus, it can be concluded that the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model can improve students' learning outcomes in the material Comparing and Ordering Fractions and Determining Equivalent Fractions in class IV SDN 01 Ladang Cakiah, Bukittinggi City.
