Abstract

Elementary education is an important foundation that prepares students to face academic challenges. One method that has been proven effective in supporting learning is formative assessment. This study aims to explore the implementation of formative assessment in Elementary School 15 Banda Aceh and its impact on students' learning skills. A qualitative approach with semi-structured interviews and observations was used to collect data from teachers, students, and the principal. The results showed that teachers used various formative assessment techniques, such as mini-tests, quizzes, group discussions, and presentations, to improve students' understanding and critical thinking skills. Despite challenges such as time constraints and varying student abilities, the implementation of formative assessment was shown to increase student engagement and motivation. Specific and constructive feedback helped students improve their understanding and encouraged them to be more active in the learning process. This study also identified the need for additional support from the school and further training for teachers to overcome challenges in implementing formative assessment. It can be concluded that formative assessment is an effective tool in improving students' learning skills in Elementary School 15 Banda Aceh, with a positive impact on student engagement and motivation. Further development in formative assessment practices is expected to improve the overall quality of education.
