Beginning reading and writing or MMP is a learning program that is oriented towards beginning reading and writing skills in the early grades when students start entering school. Mastering initial reading skills is the foundation for children to be able to progress to the next stage of reading. This research aims to determine the effect of the numbered head together model assisted by big book media on the beginning reading ability of class I students, as well as to find out whether there is an improvement between experimental class students who are better than control class students. The type of research used was a quasi-experiment with a nonequivalent control group design. The subjects in this study consisted of 56 grade I elementary school students. The instruments used were initial reading ability tests and observation sheets. The results of data analysis show that the influence of the numbered head-together model assisted by big book media on the initial reading ability of class I students is 79.9%. The results of the n-gain test for the experimental class were in the medium interpretation and the control class was in the low interpretation. This means that students who received the NHT learning model assisted by big book media were better than students who received conventional learning.Downloads
