Abstract

This research was conducted to determine the effectiveness of the Discovery Learning learning model and the Problem based learning learning model to foster critical thinking skills in science learning for fifth grade elementary school. This research uses a Quasi Experimental type of research with a Nonequivalent Control Group design. A total of 110 class V students at Gugus Hasanudin were used as the population for this research activity, but only 57 students from SDN Tegalrejo 01, SDN Tegalrejo 03, and SDN Tegalrejo 05 were used as research samples. The results of blood processing in this study using the T-test showed a Sig value. (2-tailed) of 0.000 < 0.05, it can be concluded that Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted, meaning that there is a significant difference in the values ​​of the two learning models. Where the Discovery Learning learning model group experienced an average increase of 27.33, while in the Problem Based Learning group it was 14.37. With these results, Discovery Learning has a greater level of effectiveness than Problem Based Learning in improving critical thinking skills in fifth grade elementary school science subjects.
