Abstract

This research is an analysis of reading skills conducted on fourth-grade elementary school students. The purpose of this study was to analyze reading skills in elementary schools, factors causing reading difficulties, and ways to overcome reading difficulties in grade IV elementary school students. The method used in this study is a case study with a qualitative approach. The research subject was a student in class IV of elementary school. Data collection techniques include observation, interviews, documentation, and tests. The results of this study is student R who should have entered the skills of reading comprehension but student R who is currently in grade IV has not mastered the skills of beginning reading. This is due to several factors, namely physiological factors, intellectual factors, environmental factors, and psychological factors. Steps that can be taken to solve this problem are to take an approach that focuses on the needs of students and uses appropriate learning methods that will help solving the problem of lack of reading ability and collaborate between teachers and parents to assist student in learning.
