Students’ low critical thinking skills indicate that the learning process has not yet been fully effective in fostering logical reasoning and in-depth evaluation of solutions. On the other hand, the use of artificial intelligence technology in learning has not yet been optimally integrated, particularly within the Problem-Based Learning model. This study aims to critically examine the integration of ChatGPT into the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model to enhance students’ critical thinking skills through a Systematic Literature Review of scientific articles from various reputable databases. The review process was conducted using the PRISMA protocol through the stages of identification, screening, eligibility assessment, quality assessment, and article inclusion. A total of 25 articles from Google Scholar, Scopus, ScienceDirect, and SpringerLink were analyzed using thematic synthesis. The results of the study indicate that ChatGPT is effective in supporting problem exploration and mathematical argumentation through cognitive scaffolding, whereas the evaluation of solutions still requires teacher guidance to ensure the validity of mathematical reasoning. This study produces a conceptual framework regarding the relationship between ChatGPT, cognitive scaffolding, and mathematical critical thinking skills.
