LEUIT SEBAGAI UPAYA KETAHANAN PANGAN BERBASIS KEARIFAN LOKAL DI DESA CITOREK

Abstract

Leuit is a form of local wisdom that is still preserved by the community in Citorek Village, Lebak Regency, Banten. The primary function of leuit is as a storage facility for rice to ensure long-term food availability, especially during crises such as lean seasons, natural disasters, or crop failures. Besides serving as a food reserve, leuit also symbolizes social solidarity and contributes to the preservation of biodiversity.This study aims to analyze the utilization of leuit as an effort to enhance food security based on local wisdom. The research methodology used is qualitative research. Data collection techniques include interviews, observations, documentation, and literature studies.The findings reveal that most residents of Citorek Village engage in farming, primarily rice cultivation. The research indicates that leuit plays a crucial role in fostering local food security. Moreover, the rice storage process in leuit supports the conservation of local rice seeds and minimizes the negative impacts of modernization on ecosystems. Elementary education plays an important role in introducing the cultural values of leuit through a local-based curriculum and learning activities involving the community. This study underscores the significance of leuit as a model for sustainable food security, which remains relevant amid global.
