Abstract

This study aims to understand the learning interest of fifth-grade students during mathematics learning, identify the relationship between learning interest and mathematics achievement, and discover factors influencing students' learning interest towards mathematics achievement. Students face difficulties in handling mathematics problems which affect their academic performance, with the average daily mathematics test score of fifth-grade students being 73.24, below the passing grade of 75. This research employs a qualitative approach and qualitative descriptive method at UPTD SD Negeri Jangkar 1 Tanah Merah. Data are obtained from various sources, including fifth-grade students, using purposive sampling. Research instruments include observation sheets and interviews, with data collection techniques comprising observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis is conducted using interactive analysis method. The conclusion indicates that students' learning interest significantly influences academic achievement, with lack of learning interest being the main factor causing low academic performance.
