Abstract

Reading ability is one of the language aspects that students need to learn in elementary school. Success in learning is influenced by students' mastery of reading skills at the initial level. Weak reading skills in children will certainly have a negative impact, both on their mental and academic performance. A child's weakness in reading can make him feel discouraged (inferior), lack self-confidence and result in the child's learning outcomes or achievements being less than optimal or satisfactory. They will have difficulty following and accepting the lesson material provided by the teacher. This research aims to determine the effectiveness of the AHE reading tutoring method to improve grade 1 reading skills at STTD Anak Sholih Jepara. This research uses a quantitative pre-experimental design type of research using a one group pretest-posttest design. The subjects in this research were 15 children. The data collection technique in this study used observation. The AHE method was significantly effective in improving initial reading in grade 1 students at STTD Anak Sholih Jepara. This is shown from the posttest value after being given treatment using the AHE method, seen from the results of calculations using the t test, > (2.36 > 2.13) with a significance value (α)=0.05. So it can be concluded that there is an effective AHE method for improving the reading skills of class 1 STTD Sholih Jepara children. The results of this research are in accordance with the hypothesis in the research.
