Abstract

This research aims to enhance the critical thinking skills of elementary school students by developing open-ended questions based on the topic of plane geometry. This study falls under the category of Research and Development (R&D). The research subjects were 15 fourth-grade students at SD Negeri 4 Pakis. Data collection methods included interviews, observations, and tests. All collected data were analyzed descriptively and qualitatively. The data analysis results conclude that: (1) the development of open-ended questions can serve as a solution for fourth-grade teachers at SD Negeri 4 Pakis to improve students' thinking skills, as validated by media and content experts, with a validation score of 88% for media validation categorized as "Very Good" and a content validation score of 71% categorized as "Good"; (2) The development of open-ended questions is deemed effective, as evidenced by the percentage of fourth-grade students meeting the post-test criteria, indicating an improvement in their scores. There is a significant difference in the average scores before and after, with a significance level (2-tailed) of .000 < 0.05, leading to the rejection of the null hypothesis (Ho). Therefore, it can be concluded that there is a significant impact of developing open-ended questions, making them suitable for use in the learning process after revisions and effective for enhancing students' critical thinking skills.
