Abstract

Student-centered learning needs to be applied in the classroom with the aim that students can develop their potential. The problem encountered at SDN Mojolangu 2 Malang is that students are still lacking in mathematical problem solving skills, so the selection of the right learning model is very necessary for the success of the teaching and learning process. Problem Based Learning or better known as PBL is a learning model that requires students to be able to use higher-order thinking skills, especially in problem-solving skills. This study aims to prove whether the PBL model can improve the mathematical problem solving ability of grade 2 students at SDN Mojolangu 2 Malang. This type of research is a Classroom Action Research carried out in two cycles with two meetings each. This PTK adheres to the Kemmis and Mc. Taggart Model PTK cycle with four stages including: (1) planning, (2) implementation, (3) observation, and (4) reflection. Data collection techniques in this study used observation, tests, and documentation. The results showed that students' mathematical problem solving ability increased in cycle I and cycle II with an average score of 68.09 in cycle I and 80.14 in cycle II. The percentage of completeness in this study also showed an increase from the original figure of 52% in cycle I, then rose to 81% in cycle II. It can be concluded that the Problem Based Learning or PBL model can improve the mathematical problem solving ability of grade 2 students of SDN Mojolangu 2 Malang.
