Abstract

Education does not only provide material, but there is a need for good national character building to make it easier to build the desired national character. Character education is a human effort to help develop his personal character to become a good person for himself and the surrounding environment. Thematic learning provides students with a thorough understanding of various different teaching materials in a particular theme frame. There is still a lack of responsibility for students in completing the tasks given, this study aims to illustrate the character value of responsibility in thematic learning in elementary schools. This study uses qualitative methods with a phenomenological approach. Where researchers will analyze character education and responsibility in thematic learning more specifically and in-depth on grade V students at SD Negeri Kedungrejo II by involving grade V students totaling 33 students. Determination of research subjects using purpose sampling techniques. Data analyzed using Miles and Huberman Model analysis methods include data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions.  Some teachers at SD Negeri Kedungrejo II understand character education is still lacking. In the process of implementing learning is quite good in terms of being responsible for their duties even though there are some who do it at school, as for the attitude of responsibility of students in carrying out the orders given by the teacher. Thematic learning conducted at SD Negeri Kedungrejo II can help students to strengthen responsible character education and students can complete the tasks given by the teacher and obey school rules well.
