Abstract

Improving learning outcomes is the main focus of every educational institution. However, in reality in the field there are problem phenomena, namely not all students are able to achieve optimal learning outcomes. One approach that is considered effective for improving student learning outcomes is to apply differentiation learning. Differentiated learning is an approach that takes into account the differences in the characteristics and learning needs of students. Thus differentiated learning is expected to maximize the learning potential of each student. The real conditions obtained show that in classes where the learning does not apply differentiated learning it is difficult to deal with differences in the characteristics and learning needs of students. Vygotsky's theory of the Proximal Zone of Development also supports the application of differentiated learning. According to the theory, students can achieve higher levels of understanding through the help and support of teachers or more capable peers. The focus and main objective of this study is to identify whether the application of this differentiated learning can improve student learning outcomes. This study uses a Classroom Action Research (CAR) approach as the main methodology and uses analytical techniques using quantitative descriptive analysis techniques. Based on the results and discussion, this class action research shows that analysis of student learning outcomes data with differentiated learning has proven effective in improving PPKN learning outcomes on the uniqueness of Indonesian socio-cultural diversity in class V.
