Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of sport massage in accelerating muscle fatigue recovery after exercise in athletes. High-intensity physical activity and repetitive training may cause muscle fatigue, muscle soreness, and decreased physical performance, potentially affecting athletic performance. One recovery method that can be applied is sport massage, a massage technique intended to promote muscle relaxation, reduce muscle tension, and improve comfort following physical activity. This study employed a qualitative descriptive method using a literature review approach by examining relevant scientific sources concerning the application of sport massage in athletes’ recovery processes. The analysis focused on its benefits, mechanisms of action, and contribution to muscle fatigue recovery after exercise. The findings indicate that sport massage may help reduce perceived muscle soreness, promote relaxation, and improve perceived recovery following physical activity. However, its effectiveness in accelerating muscle strength recovery and improving physiological functions requires further investigation, as the outcomes may vary depending on massage techniques, duration, exercise intensity, and individual athlete conditions. Therefore, sport massage can be considered a supportive component of athletes’ recovery strategies when combined with adequate rest, proper hydration, and appropriate nutritional intake.
