This case study examines the off-task behavior of 10th-grade students during classical guidance sessions at a high school in Malang City. The study aims to describe the forms of off-task behavior, their causes and impacts, and the efforts made by the guidance and counseling teacher to address them. A qualitative approach with a case study design was employed. The research subjects consisted of seven students (primary informants) and one guidance and counseling teacher (supporting informant), selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. Data validity was ensured through source and technique triangulation, while data analysis utilized the Miles and Huberman interactive model, comprising data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that students exhibited three forms of off-task behavior: motoric (e.g., eating in class), verbal (e.g., chatting with friends), and passive (e.g., using mobile phones, daydreaming, and failing to pay attention to the teacher's explanation). These behaviors were influenced by internal factors (boredom, low concentration, drowsiness, fatigue, and mobile phone habits) and external factors (peer influence and an unconducive classroom atmosphere). Such behaviors reduced students' comprehension of the material, hindered the effectiveness of the guidance sessions, and distracted other students. The guidance and counseling teacher addressed these behaviors through preventive measures (establishing class commitments, fostering motivation, maintaining positive communication, and creating a conducive atmosphere) and curative measures (reprimands, individual approaches, varied teaching methods, ice-breaking activities, group discussions, and counseling for students with recurring issues).
