Abstract

Mental health is a crucial factor influencing the achievement of optimal performance in sports. This study aims to determine the relationship between stress levels, competitive anxiety, and the performance of athletes preparing for the Pre-Regional Sports Week (Pra-PORA) competition. This study employs a quantitative correlational design. The sample consists of [60] athletes selected using [purposive sampling] from various sports disciplines who are preparing for the Pra-PORA competition. Data collection instruments included the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10) to measure stress levels, the Sport Anxiety Scale-2 (SAS-2) to measure competitive anxiety, and a Performance Rating Scale to assess athlete performance during simulations or actual competitions. Data analysis was conducted using multiple linear regression with the aid of SPSS software. The results indicate that: (1) there is a significant negative relationship between stress levels and athlete performance; (2) there is a significant negative relationship between competitive anxiety and athlete performance; and (3) stress levels and competitive anxiety simultaneously have a significant relationship with athlete performance, contributing [percentage figure, e.g., 45%]. The study concludes that higher levels of stress and competitive anxiety experienced by athletes result in lower performance during competition. These findings underscore the importance of mental training programs implemented by coaches to maintain athletes' psychological stability and achieve peak performance.
