Abstract

This study was motivated by the need for interactive learning media that can assist students in understanding network cabling concepts while improving their critical thinking skills. This study aimed to develop a Guided Inquiry-based cabling simulator called “Click&Crimp,” analyze its effectiveness in improving students' critical thinking skills, and examine students' responses to the use of the media. The study employed a Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE model. The effectiveness of the media was tested using a Quasi-Experimental Design with a Nonequivalent Control Group Design involving 72 students, consisting of 36 students in the experimental class and 36 students in the control class. Data were analyzed using N-Gain, the Mann–Whitney U test, Cohen's d effect size, and the System Usability Scale (SUS). The results showed that the experimental class obtained an average N-Gain score of 0.835, categorized as high, while the control class obtained an average score of 0.636, categorized as moderate. The Mann–Whitney U test indicated a significant difference in the improvement of critical thinking skills between the two groups (p < 0.001), with an effect size of 1.78, categorized as large. Students' responses yielded an average SUS score of 69.24, categorized as Marginal High. Therefore, the “Click&Crimp” simulator was effective in improving students' critical thinking skills and demonstrated an adequate level of usability as a learning medium.
