Abstract

This study aimed to improve students’ learning outcomes in the subject of Natural and Social Sciences through the implementation of the Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model among fourth-grade students at St. Theresia Passo Catholic Elementary School. This Classroom Action Research (CAR) employed the spiral model developed by Kemmis and Taggart, which consists of four stages: planning, action implementation, observation, and reflection. The research was conducted in two cycles. The research subjects were 11 fourth-grade students at St. Theresia Passo Catholic Elementary School, consisting of 7 male and 4 female students. Data were collected through observation and learning outcome tests. The data obtained were then analyzed descriptively to determine improvements in students’ learning outcomes. The results showed that the implementation of the Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model improved students’ learning outcomes in Natural and Social Sciences. This improvement was reflected in the increase in students’ learning mastery from a relatively low initial condition, followed by an improvement in Cycle I and a more substantial improvement in Cycle II, with most students achieving scores above the established Minimum Learning Mastery Criteria of 75%. In addition, students’ learning activities and engagement in the learning process also increased because they were directly involved in project-based activities related to the learning materials. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the implementation of the Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model can improve students’ learning outcomes in IPAS among fourth-grade students at St. Theresia Passo Catholic Elementary School.
