Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach on third-grade students' mathematical concept comprehension of whole numbers at MIN 2 Lhokseumawe. This research is motivated by students' low conceptual comprehension due to conventional and abstract teaching methods. This quantitative study utilized a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest control group design with a sample of 46 students, divided into experimental (RME) and control (conventional) groups. The Independent Samples t-Test results showed a Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.000 < 0.05 and a t-count of 8.796 > t-table of 1.692. The experimental group experienced a significant increase in the posttest average (84.61), surpassing the passing standard, while the control group only reached 51.96. In conclusion, the RME approach has a positive and significant effect on improving students' mathematical concept comprehension.
