PENGARUH PENERAPAN MODEL PROBLEM BASED LEARNING (PBL) TERHADAP KEMAMPUAN LITERASI MATEMATIKA SISWA KELAS IV SD N 10 LANGSA

Abstract

This study was motivated by the low level of mathematical literacy among fourth-grade students at SD Negeri 10 Langsa. One approach that can be implemented to address this issue is the application of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model. This study aimed to determine the effect of implementing the Problem Based Learning model on the mathematical literacy skills of fourth-grade students at SD Negeri 10 Langsa. The study employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental research design using a Non-Equivalent Control Group Design. The subjects consisted of 40 students, comprising 20 students in the control group and 20 students in the experimental group. The results showed that the average pretest score of the experimental group was 24.95, while the control group obtained an average score of 24.10. Following the learning intervention, the average posttest score of the experimental group increased to 70.40, while the control group increased to 67.55. The hypothesis testing results indicated a significance value of 0.02 < 0.05, demonstrating that the implementation of the Problem Based Learning model had a significant effect on students’ mathematical literacy skills. The N-Gain analysis showed an improvement in mathematical literacy skills of 0.61 in the experimental group and 0.57 in the control group, both of which were categorized as moderate. However, the experimental group demonstrated a greater improvement than the control group. Furthermore, the effect size calculation yielded a value of 0.86, which was categorized as large, indicating that the Problem Based Learning model had a substantial effect on students’ mathematical literacy skills.
