Abstract

This study was motivated by the low learning outcomes of fifth-grade students on the human digestive system topic at UPTD SD Negeri 8 Peusangan. This condition was caused by the learning process, which was still teacher-centered, resulting in students being less active and less motivated to participate in learning activities. Therefore, the implementation of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model was needed to actively engage students in the learning process. This study aimed to determine the improvement in students’ learning outcomes through the implementation of the PBL model on the human digestive system topic. The study employed both qualitative and quantitative approaches using Classroom Action Research (CAR). The research was conducted in two cycles, consisting of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. The subjects were 25 fifth-grade students at UPTD SD Negeri 8 Peusangan. Data were collected through observations, learning outcome tests, student response questionnaires, and documentation. The results showed that the implementation of the PBL model improved students’ learning outcomes. In Cycle I, the percentage of learning mastery reached 40%, with an average score of 67.2, and increased in Cycle II to 92%, with an average score of 87.6. Teacher activity increased from 80.5% in Cycle I to 96.31% in Cycle II, categorized as very good. Student activity also increased from 77.5% to 93.89%, categorized as very good. Students’ responses to the implementation of the PBL model were also categorized as very positive. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the implementation of the PBL model was effective in improving students’ learning outcomes on the human digestive system topic in fifth grade at UPTD SD Negeri 8 Peusangan and in creating a more active, effective, and optimally student-centered learning environment.
