Low student engagement remains a challenge in Indonesian language instruction, particularly regarding drama text material. This issue was observed during the Field Experience Program (PPL) in class XI-6 at SMAN 4 Pekanbaru, where the majority of students tended to be passive and instruction was dominated by the lecture method. This article aims to describe the implementation of a "word search" quiz as a best practice to enhance student engagement during drama text lessons. The study employs a best practice approach utilizing a qualitative descriptive method. The participants consisted of 43 students from class XI-6 at SMAN 4 Pekanbaru. Data were gathered through classroom observations and teacher reflection following the lessons. The instructional strategy involved a word search quiz game combined with question-and-answer sessions and the provision of extra credit as a form of positive reinforcement. The results indicate that the strategy successfully increased student engagement, evidenced by a rise in the number of students willing to ask questions, provide answers, and express opinions during the lesson. Furthermore, the learning process became more interactive, student motivation improved, and students demonstrated a better understanding of fundamental drama text concepts. These findings suggest that the word search quiz is a simple, easily implemented, and effective alternative strategy for creating an active, enjoyable, and student-centered Indonesian language learning environment.
