Abstract

Employees in high-intensity manufacturing settings may experience excessive workloads, restricted recovery time, and psychological strain that reduce performance. This study examined the partial and simultaneous effects of work overload and job stress on employee performance at PT. AAA. A quantitative causal-explanatory design was applied to a population of 250 active employees. Using the Slovin formula and simple random sampling, 154 respondents were selected. Primary data were collected through a five-point Likert questionnaire and analyzed with instrument quality tests, classical assumption tests, multiple linear regression, t-tests, and an F-test using IBM SPSS Statistics 27. The regression equation was Y = 34.039 - 0.593X1 - 0.318X2. Work overload had a negative and significant effect on performance (B = -0.593; beta = -0.608; t = -8.536; p < 0.001). Job stress also had a negative and significant effect (B = -0.318; beta = -0.386; t = -5.413; p < 0.001). Both predictors were jointly significant (F = 32.892; p < 0.001). Work overload showed the stronger relative effect. The findings indicate that proportional task allocation, controlled overtime, adequate recovery, and sustained stress-management support are important for protecting employee performance.
