Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the effect of implementing a Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model supported by the Archipelago Spice Route Map on the learning engagement of eighth-grade students in Class VIII B at SMP Negeri 13 Malang. The approach used in this study was quantitative, employing a one-group pretest-posttest design. The research sample consisted of 32 students selected through purposive sampling. Data for this study were collected through observation, the distribution of learning engagement questionnaires, and documentation. Subsequently, the collected data were analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics version 25. The analysis stages included descriptive statistics, the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, and a Paired-Samples T-Test to test the research hypotheses. The research results showed an increase in the average learning activity score from 32.06 on the pre-test to 57.09 on the post-test. The normality test results indicated that the research data met the assumption of normality, with a pre-test value of 0.300 and a post-test value of 0.466. Furthermore, the hypothesis test using the Paired-Samples T-Test yielded a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). Based on the research results, the implementation of the Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model, supported by the Archipelago Spice Route Map, has a significant effect on students' learning engagement in social studies.
