PERAN GURU PADA PROGRAM GREEN SCHOOL UNTUK MENGUATKAN KARAKTER PEDULI LINGKUNGAN SISWA KELAS V DI SDN KUNCIRAN 9

Abstract

This study is motivated by the importance of strengthening environmental care character among elementary school students through sustainable school programs. SDN Kunciran 9 is one of the schools that has implemented the green school program since 2019 as an effort to develop environmental awareness habits through various habituation activities. The success of this program is strongly influenced by the role of teachers in integrating environmental care values into both learning activities and school culture. This study aims to identify and describe the role of teachers in the implementation of the green school program as an effort to strengthen students’ environmental care character at SDN Kunciran 9, as well as to identify supporting and inhibiting factors in its implementation. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques including observation, interviews, and documentation. The informants in this study consist of the principal, teachers, and students. The results show that teachers play an important role as role models, mentors, motivators, and supervisors in the implementation of the green school program. The program is implemented through various activities such as classroom cleaning duties, community service activities, waste sorting, plant care, and the habituation of energy-saving behaviors. The implementation of the program has a positive impact on improving students’ environmental care character. This is reflected in students’ involvement in maintaining school cleanliness and participating in environmental-based activities. Supporting factors for the success of the program include the support of the principal and teachers, school policies, and adequate facilities and infrastructure. Meanwhile, the inhibiting factors found include uneven levels of student awareness and inconsistent implementation of several activities. Therefore, the green school program can be an effective effort to foster and strengthen environmental care character among students at SDN Kunciran 9.
