Abstract

Fatherlessness has become an increasingly important issue because the absence of a father's physical or emotional involvement may affect the social-emotional development of young children. This study aimed to describe the condition of fatherlessness, analyze the social-emotional development of children experiencing fatherlessness, and examine its impact on early childhood at TKN Handayani Sumber. This research employed a qualitative approach using a case study design. The participants consisted of children experiencing fatherlessness, classroom teachers, the school principal, and parents as supporting informants. Data were collected through observations, interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The validity of the data was ensured through source triangulation, technique triangulation, time triangulation, prolonged engagement, and member checking. The findings revealed that fatherlessness negatively affects children's social-emotional development. Children experiencing fatherlessness tended to have difficulties in emotional regulation, including being easily angered, emotionally sensitive, and socially withdrawn. They also experienced obstacles in social interaction, such as limited participation in peer activities and reduced self-confidence. The study concludes that fatherlessness influences children's emotional regulation, social interaction, and self-confidence. Therefore, collaboration between families and early childhood education institutions is essential to provide continuous support and create a nurturing environment that promotes optimal social-emotional development.
