PROBLEMATIKA DAN MOTIVASI MENGHAFAL AL-QUR’AN AL-KARIM PESERTA DIDIK PADA SEKOLAH BERBASIS PESANTREN DI SMP AS-SALAM AMBON

Abstract

Quranic learning that emphasizes memorization has been widely implemented in religious educational centers, such as schools and Islamic boarding schools (pesantren). The development of modern pesantren-based schools presents an integrated educational model that combines the national general education curriculum with the pesantren curriculum. This study aims to examine the challenges of memorizing the Holy Qur’an and the aspects influencing student motivation at SMP As-Salam Ambon. A qualitative approach was employed in this research, involving 13 subjects: students, teachers, musyrif or musyrifah (mentors), school leadership, and the Vice Principal of Curriculum. Data collection was conducted through observation, interviews, and documentation. The analysis followed the stages of data processing, data display, and concluding. The results indicate that the challenges in Quranic memorization are influenced by laziness, lack of focus, time constraints, interpersonal conflicts with peers, environmental factors, and a lack of fluency and intensity in muroja’ah (repetition). Students' efforts to improve their memorization are driven by internal factors, such as self-confidence and the ambition to achieve personal goals, as well as external factors, including peer support, the role modeling of other Quranic memorizers, and parental expectations. Efforts by the school to address these issues include enhancing the competence of Quranic teachers, conducting regular program evaluations, increasing the teaching staff, and organizing specialized coaching programs for students.
