PENERAPAN PEMBELAJARAN BERBASIS PROYEK UNTUK MENINGKATKAN KETERAMPILAN MEMBACA SISWA KELAS V DI SD NEGERI 3 TAMAN BALI TAHUN AJARAN 2025/2026

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation process of the word domino card media in Indonesian language learning, and  determine the improvement of early reading skills among second-grade students at SD Negeri 3 Taman Bali. The study was motivated by preliminary observations showing that of 18 second-grade students, only 6 students (33.33%) reached the Minimum Mastery Criteria (KKM) of 70, while 12 students (66.67%) had not achieved mastery and still had difficulty connecting letter sounds with their graphic symbols, with an average daily assessment score of only 60. This study used a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design based on the Kemmis and McTaggart model, conducted in two cycles, each consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. The subjects were all second-grade students of SD Negeri 3 Taman Bali in the 2025/2026 academic year, totaling 18 students (7 boys and 11 girls). Data were collected through oral early reading tests, observation of student activities, and documentation, then analyzed descriptively by calculating the class average score and the percentage of classical mastery. The study was considered successful if at least 80% of students achieved a score of ≥ 70. The results showed that the implementation of the word domino card media gradually improved students' early reading skills from the baseline condition through Cycle I to Cycle II, as indicated by increases in the class average score and classical mastery percentage until the success indicator was achieved. Thus, the word domino card media proved effective as an alternative, concrete, interactive, and enjoyable media for early reading instruction among second-grade elementary students.
