Abstract

Verbal bullying remains one of the most common forms of bullying found in elementary schools and has negative impacts on students' psychological, social, and academic development. This study aimed to analyze the factors causing verbal bullying, identify its forms, and examine its implications for sixth-grade students at SD Negeri 4 Kawan, Bangli District, Bangli Regency. The study employed a qualitative approach using a descriptive research design. Research participants consisted of the principal, teachers, and sixth-grade students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through observation, interviews, documentation, and literature review. Data analysis followed the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing, while data validity was ensured through source and technique triangulation. The findings revealed that verbal bullying was influenced by three main factors, namely social, cultural, and individual factors. Social factors were related to peer interaction and the school environment. Cultural factors were influenced by habitual joking, the use of everyday language, and environmental norms that considered teasing as common behavior. Individual factors were associated with students' personalities, emotional control, self-confidence, and differences in physical appearance and academic ability. The forms of verbal bullying included giving negative nicknames, mocking physical conditions, insults, harsh words, and degrading jokes. These behaviors resulted in decreased self-confidence, disrupted social relationship lower learning motivation and achievement, emotional disturbances, and a less conducive classroom climate. Therefore, collaborative efforts among schools, teachers, parents, and students are necessary to prevent verbal bullying and create a safe, comfortable, and respectful learning environment.
