PENGARUH LINGKUNGAN SEKOLAH TERHADAP PEMBENTUKAN KARAKTER PESERTA DIDIK

Abstract

This study was motivated by the fact that the school environment, as the second educational institution after the family, plays an important role in shaping students' character through school culture, leadership, social interaction, the consistent enforcement of school rules, and adequate facilities. This research aimed to analyze the influence of the school environment on the character formation of tenth- and eleventh-grade students at SMA Diponegoro 2 Jakarta. A quantitative method with a descriptive-analytical correlational approach was employed. The population consisted of students in grades X and XI, from which a sample of 75 students was determined using the Slovin formula with a 10% margin of error and a proportionate stratified random sampling technique. Data were collected through questionnaires, interviews, observation, and documentation, and were analyzed using descriptive statistics, validity and reliability tests, prerequisite analysis tests, the Pearson Product Moment correlation test, simple linear regression, hypothesis testing, and the coefficient of determination. The results showed a correlation coefficient (r) of 0.673, categorized as a moderate to strong relationship, with a significance value of 0.000 (< 0.05); the calculated r-value exceeded the r-table values of 0.214 (5%) and 0.281 (1%), so the alternative hypothesis was accepted. The coefficient of determination (R²) of 45.4% indicates that the school environment contributes substantially to students' character formation, while the remaining 54.6% is influenced by other factors such as family and peer environment.
