Abstract

Student discipline is a key indicator of character development and successful learning processes in elementary schools. However, violations of school regulations remain common, highlighting the need to identify factors that influence students' disciplinary behavior. This study aimed to examine the effect of teachers' personality competence on the discipline of fourth-grade students at UPTD SD Inpres Bertingkat Oepura 4. The study employed a quantitative approach using an ex post facto research design. The population consisted of 55 fourth-grade students, all of whom were selected as the sample using the total sampling technique. Data were collected through a Likert-scale questionnaire that had met the requirements of validity and reliability. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and simple linear regression with the assistance of SPSS software. The results indicated that teachers' personality competence was categorized as good, while students' discipline was categorized as fairly good. The regression analysis produced the equation Y = 11.090 + 0.794X, with a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating that teachers' personality competence had a positive and significant effect on students' discipline. Furthermore, the coefficient of determination (R² = 0.454) showed that teachers' personality competence accounted for 45.4% of the variance in students' discipline, while the remaining 54.6% was explained by other factors beyond the scope of this study. These findings suggest that strengthening teachers' personality competence through exemplary behavior, integrity, responsibility, and consistency in carrying out professional duties can contribute to enhancing students' disciplinary character in elementary schools.
