Abstract

Scientific literacy plays an important role in shaping mindsets, behaviors, and individual character to care for and take responsibility for oneself, society, the universe, and the challenges of modern society that depend on technology. The selection of appropriate learning approaches is needed to develop students' scientific literacy. STEM is an approach that integrates science, technology, engineering, and mathematics in contextual problem-solving. One of the learning outcomes in Grade X biology, phase E, is environmental change, with the sub-material on water pollution. E-LKPD is a digital teaching material to train students' understanding of the material. This study aims to develop E-LKPD to train scientific literacy skills that are valid, practical, and effective. This study applies the 4-D model (define, design, develop, disseminate). The aspects measured include validity, practicality, and effectiveness. Validity is assessed based on the aspects of presentation, content, and language by two validators, namely material expert lecturers and media expert lecturers. Practicality is measured through observation of student activities and student response questionnaires. Effectiveness is assessed based on the improvement of scientific literacy skills through a comparison of pre-test and post-test scores. The E-LKPD was tested on a limited basis on 25 grade X students of SMAN 1 Cerme. The dissemination stage was carried out through the publication of scientific articles. The validation data were analyzed using a Likert scale, the observational data on student activities and the questionnaire responses were analyzed using a Guttman scale, and the students' scientific literacy ability was analyzed using the N-Gain score. The results showed that the E-LKPD was very valid with a validity 93.50%. Practicality was categorized as very practical based on the implementation of student activities at 96.21% and positive student responses at 97.71%. Effectiveness was reviewed from the improvement of scientific literacy skills with an average N-Gain of 0.78 in the great improvement category. Thus, the STEM-based E-LKPD is considered valid, practical, and effective in training students' scientific literacy skills in the sub-material of water pollution.
