Abstract

This study aimed to improve students’ speaking skills based on digital literacy through the use of the Kipin School application among students of class X.5 at SMA Negeri 8 Bone. The research employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) using the Kemmis and McTaggart model, which was conducted in two cycles consisting of planning, action implementation, observation, and reflection stages. The subjects of this study were 32 students. The results revealed that students’ speaking skills in the pre-action stage were still low, with an average score of 53 and a learning mastery percentage of 0%. After the implementation of digital literacy-based learning assisted by the Kipin School application, students’ speaking skills improved in each cycle. In Cycle I, the average score and student participation began to increase, although the predetermined success indicators had not yet been fully achieved. In Cycle II, a significant improvement in students’ speaking skills was observed, as indicated by enhanced speaking fluency, pronunciation accuracy, vocabulary mastery, and students’ self-confidence in expressing ideas orally. The percentage of learning mastery also increased and successfully met the established criteria. Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of the Kipin School application integrated with digital literacy is effective in improving students’ speaking skills. Furthermore, this learning approach was able to enhance students’ motivation, participation, and self-confidence in the Indonesian language learning process.
