Abstract

Work-family conflict is a role conflict that may reduce work engagement among
married female nurses who perform dual roles as employees and mothers. This
study aimed to examine the effect of work-family conflict on work engagement
among married female nurses at RSUD Solok Selatan. A quantitative correlational
design was employed involving 92 respondents selected using a total sampling
technique. Data were collected using the Work-Family Conflict Scale and the
Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES-9) and analyzed using simple linear
regression. The findings revealed that work-family conflict had a significant negative
effect on work engagement (F = 118.309; t = -10.877; p < 0.001), with a coefficient
of determination (R²) of 0.568. This indicates that work-family conflict accounted for
56.8% of the variance in work engagement. The results suggest that higher levels
of work-family conflict are associated with lower levels of work engagement.
Therefore, managing work-family conflict is essential to enhance the work
engagement of married female nurses.
